U.S. biodiesel production totaled 156 million gallons in June, up 5 percent from May and up 11 percent year over year. Soybean oil utilization jumped to 624 million pounds, tying the record previously set in March. Almost a third of June’s soybean oil production went to the manufacture of biodiesel, as producers took advantage of lower pricing for the top U.S. feedstock.

Use of canola oil, at 113 million pounds, rebounded from May but remained significantly weaker than a year ago. Although corn oil utilization dipped a bit to 170 million pounds, use of this feedstock remained substantially higher than in 2017 due to greater supply of distillers corn oil from ethanol manufacturers.
