In the event of the EU imposing trade sanctions on the U.S. in response to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum, orange juice and cranberry products are expected to be among EU targets. The EU imports most of its orange juice from Brazil, but when Brazil’s supplies are low, as they were last season, U.S. processors are glad to have the opportunity to send OJ across the Atlantic. Canada, however, is the top destination for U.S. OJ, and OJ might be an attractive target for Canadian retaliatory tariffs because Florida is a red state. Although U.S. exports of all types of OJ were down 88 percent Oct-Dec this season vs. 2016/17, exports to Canada were down just 15 percent. Stay tuned…
