California raisin production increased 17 percent (in terms of handled volume) in 2018 from 2017’s small volume but was down 7-10 percent from more usual volumes of the past ten years. Natural seedless raisins, which account for most of the state’s raisin supply, totaled just under 284,000 tons compared to 303,500 tons in 2016.
Golden seedless raisin production increased 21 percent YOY, to 16,600 tons—still not as much as in 2016 but indicative of a good base of demand. The category of Other Seedless increased sharply from the volume of recent years, to over 13,275 tons. Crimson and flame seedless raisins, which are popular in raisin medleys, fall under the Other category.
