For the marketing year through June, cumulative sugar deliveries for human use are reported at 7.995 million short tons, physical. This volume, which includes reported re-export figures, was down 0.7 percent from the same period last year. Last month, USDA forecast growth of sugar deliveries (food use) of 1.1 percent for 2017/18.
Some may remember that the 2017/18 market year started off strong, with October deliveries up nearly 14 percent from deliveries for the same month in 2016. Though that pace was not sustained, deliveries for the first half of the market year, from October through March, saw only nominal growth from the first half of 2016/17. The third quarter, April through June, has seen only year-on-year declines in monthly sugar delivery volumes.
