As of the week of Dec. 7, Mexican cane harvest area reached 19,895 hectares, less than half last year’s pace and the five-year average.

Cane crush is down 40 percent YOY, with sugar production down 41 percent YOY at 144,934 MT. For comparison, the five-year average for sugar output as of this date is nearly 291,000 MT.

Some 15 mills began their campaigns in November, and another 10 mills begun crushing through Dec. 7, per SAGARPA.
