India’s October-May sugar production totaled 30.57 MMT, up 13 percent from production a year ago of 27.01 MMT. Per ISMA, about 7 mills were still crushing at the start of June, down from 18 mills a year ago.

For top-state Uttar Pradesh, production totaled 11.012 MMT, down 12 percent YOY. Four mills are still running in June, down from 14 mills a year ago.

Maharashtra production to date reached 10.63 MMT, up 72 percent from its drought-pressured output last season. In Karnataka, production ended in early April, was up 23 percent YOY at 4.17 MMT.

With the pandemic interrupting some traditional sugarcane processing, more cane may have been made available for industrial milling and refining in several key states.
