For 2018/19 through the first week of April, exports totaled 1.744 MMT, more than double the exports reported for all of 2017/18. At least another 0.43 MT may be exported, per current AISTA reporting. Asian and Middle Eastern countries have been the largest buyers, with raw sugar representing some 0.8 MMT of exports to date.

Given elevated stocks, the government has targeted exports of 4 to 5 MMT, an ambitious figure. Mills’ cane arrears to growers are currently estimated at a record of nearly US$4.3 billion.
