European cocoa grind from July through September reached 363,122 MT, reported ECA this week. This volume is up 2.7 percent from grind volume of 353,455 MT for the same quarter last year. While this gain is significant—particularly compared to the grind declines reported for North America—it is the lowest YOY growth by percentage for the marketing year: October-December growth was 4.4 percent YOY, January-March growth was 5.5 percent, and April-June growth was higher still at 7.3 percent.

Grind volume for all 2017/18 grind totaled 1.431 MMT, up 4.9 percent from 2016/17 grind of 1.364 MMT.

The market will have a fuller picture of the evolution of cocoa grind demand with the upcoming publication of grind figures for North America and Asia.
