Ethanol production last week set a new record, averaging 1.108 million barrels per day, up 4 percent from the previous week and up 8 percent from a year ago. Use dropped to 885,000 barrels per day, down 4 percent week over week but still up almost 2 percent from last year. Use tends to fluctuate sharply between the end of November and the end of December, and if general patterns from the last several years recur, we expect use rebounded this week just as sharply as it previously fell and then to drop to around 812,000 barrels per day by the beginning of the new year.
