U.S. layers totaled 374.7 million as of May 1, up 3 percent year over year and maintaining the growth rate seen the previous month. There were 690.7 million broiler-type eggs in incubators, up 4 percent from a year ago, and in April there were almost 802.8 million broiler chick hatches, up 1 percent. Broiler hatches fluctuate monthly but tend to increase on average April through August, which can help support stronger pricing for corn feed products as poultry producers stock up.
