Asia’s cocoa bean grind volume reached 196,476 MT in calendar 2016, up from 2016 grind of 651,494 MT. This is a second year of growth for the region: up 9.0 percent in 2016 and now up 11.2 percent in 2017. For comparison, total 2017 grind was reported at 1,378,541 MT for top grinder Europe, with North American grind in third place at 484,620 MT. Year on year, European grind rose 2.6 percent, while North American grind fell a tenth of a percent.
The volume reported by CAA for 2017 would be equivalent to almost 17 percent of total grind in 2017, estimated near 3.35 million MT.
CAA members’ grind in the last quarter of 2017 was a record 196,476 MT of beans, up 3.7 percent from Q3 2017 and 4.2 percent from Q4 2016.
